It is Friday evening. Mia is tired after work. There is no food at home. So she goes to the small shop on her street.
She has a list on her phone. Milk. Bread. Eggs. Apples. Rice, because she is from Osaka, and rice is important.
The shop is small, but it has everything. Mia gets a bag. She puts in the milk and the bread. She puts in six eggs. She puts in four red apples. Then she looks for rice.
The rice is at the back of the shop. There is a big bag and a small bag. Mia takes the big bag. Now her bag is very heavy. She has some chocolate, too. It is Friday, after all.
There is a long line of people. Mia waits. The man at the front has a lot of things. The woman after him has a baby. The baby is not happy. Mia waits and waits.
Then it is her turn. The shop man is young, and he has a kind face. "Hello," he says. He takes her things one by one. "That is twenty pounds, please."
Mia looks in her bag. She looks in her coat. She has her phone. She has her keys. She does not have her money. Her money is at home on the table.
Mia's face is very red. "I am so sorry," she says. "My money is at home." The people in the line look at her. She wants to go home.
But the shop man smiles. "You live on this street, yes?" he says. "Yes," says Mia. "Next to Mrs Green." "Ah, Mrs Green!" he says. "Take the things. Pay tomorrow."
Mia goes home with her heavy bag. That night, she makes rice and eggs. It is very good. She eats some chocolate, too.
On Saturday morning, Mia goes to the shop again. She has her money this time. She pays the twenty pounds. She gives the man some chocolate, too. "For you," she says. "Thank you." Now she knows his name. It is Omar.
